Enigma Segar Double Robusto

The first thing I notice when I pick up this cigar is how different it is from almost every other Connecticut out there. Although the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrappers are thicker, most Pennsylvania wrappers are very thin. They feel almost like wax paper and most of the time will have small cracks around where you cut them, or at the foot of the cigar. This stick is different in that the wrapper leaf is nice and thick. It feels like velvet when you touch it. The triple cap at the top is gorgeous and tight. The seams are tight but very visible. There are no flaws with the wrapper at all. I am impressed.

The band of the cigar has a lot of wording on it which detracts from the very cool image of a ship on the sea. The name and size are both indicated on it. The gold trim almost matches the wrapper perfectly!

I punch the cigar and get a draw that is on the loose side. The pack is not super firm but it is consistent and has no soft spots. The aroma off of the wrapper and foot is your expected green hay. The dry draw carries these smells into the flavor.

I light up the cigar and am pleasantly surprised when I get zero bite or bitterness. There is no young taste to this tobacco. The flavors are smooth and creamy. There is a very small hint of spice in the background. The burn is super sharp and the smoke is so plentiful. This cigar is being smoked right off of the truck and the humidity is great. Since the cigars are sealed in packages of fives at the factory, they hold the humidity well. As the cigar burns, I see a nice line of oil behind the fire.

The flavors remain consistent through the second third. There is a natural sweetness that has really ramped up and is creating a pleasant finish. A finish, I might add, that lasts a very long time. The body is between a mild and medium as the flavors are plentiful. The strength is mild and indiscernible to me. Definitely, a cigar that would go well with breakfast or for those who like lighter sticks.

As I smoke through the final third the spice kicks up in the retrohale and definitely confirms the medium body description. The smoke begins to heat up towards the nub and brings out a bit of that Connecticut bitterness. At this point, with the heavy sweetness and the spice, the bitterness blends in nicely and I easily smoke it down to an inch.

Overall, this is one of the better Connecticut cigars in terms of construction and smooth profiles. If Connecticut is your go to wrapper, then this will not disappoint you at all.
